Dr. Aldona J. Spiegel was born in Warsaw, Poland and grew up in Canada. She received her doctorate in Medicine from the University of Ottawa, graduating with honors. She then went on to pursue her training in general surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, completing her plastic surgery residency and microsurgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
As director of the Center for Breast Restoration at the Houston Methodist Institute for Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Spiegel prepares the next generation of plastic surgeons in the highly skilled area of microsurgical breast reconstruction, including autologous muscle-preserving perforator flaps such as the DIEP/SIEA, SGAP, TAP and PAP flaps.
Her passion for developing and improving reconstruction techniques and reestablishing breast sensation has made her a highly sought after surgeon, speaker, editor and reviewer for multiple publications including The Breast Journal, Annals of Plastic Surgery and Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery.
She is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, Plastic Surgery Research Council, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Harris County Medical Society. In addition to her busy practice, many memberships and consultancy positions, she enjoys time with her husband and three wonderful children.
